You all seem to be liking Italian recipes and posts lately like my Cranberry Limoncello Spritzer (great for Christmas) and my Cannoli Cookies (so POPULAR!).I’m always happy to come up with more fun Italian recipes like this fun Italian co*cktail with Italian Prosecco.

This wine slushie is a great way to use up Prosecco if you have some left, or you could substitute your favorite sparkling or non-sparkling white wine or even Champagne.

But before we talk more about this Strawberry Prosecco Slushie, let’s talk about Prosecco!

What’s Prosecco?

If you’re wondering what’s Prosecco, I’ve got the answer for you! Prosecco is an Italian white wine. The name is from the Italian village of Prosecco where the grape and wine originated. Proseecco alcohol content is generally 11 to 12 percent by volume.

That’s the quick definition. If you’ve never tried it, give it a try!

Champagne vs. Prosecco

Ever wonder what is the difference between Prosecco and Champagne? I’ve heard a lot of people ask “Is Prosecco Champagne”? Well quick answer is Prosecco is NOT Champagne, but I was curious to find more so I did a little research…

Champagne is a sparkling wine made in the Champagne region of France. It is made with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier grapes. Champagne is usually much more costly and produced by what’s considered the “traditional method”.

Prosecco, on the other hand, is not always sparkling, although many people consider it a sparkling wine. It is produced in Italia with Prosecco (Glera) grapes. Prosecco is generally much less expensive than Champagne, and produced using a less expensive method called the “Charmat-Martinotti method” or “tank method”.

Like I said, this Strawberry Prosecco Slushie recipe is a great way to use up some old or flat Prosecco or you can substitute your favorite white wine.

How to Make A Wine Slushie at Home:

There are a few ways to make homemade slushies.

Some people make homemade slushies like a granita where you mix or blend all the ingredients then freeze the liquid in a large baking dish. As the liquid starts to freeze, you scrape the edges every so often and repeat until all the liquid is frozen and slushie.

Making a granita is a lot of work though and you have to remember to scrape the edges. Although if you don’t want to add other ingredients to your wine slushie and just want to freeze the wine by itself, making it like a granita is probably the best way to go.

I like to make wine slushies right in a blender with frozen fruit so that the drinks are ready in a few minutes. You could also use ice instead of using fresh fruit, but I like to use frozen fruit so it doesn’t water down the drinks. You’ll have a wine slushie in like 2 minutes.

Strawberry Prosecco Slushie Ingredients

  • Strawberries (frozen)
  • Italian Prosecco
  • Orange Juice
  • Honey

How to Make a Slushie with a Blender:

In order to make a homemade slushie with a blender, you want to make sure you have both frozen ingredients and liquid.

Like I said above, I like to use frozen fruit with the wine (or liquid). Otherwise, you’d have to use ice to get you that slushie texture but that will water down your drink. You can freeze your own fruit or buy the fruit already frozen. Costco has great big bags of frozen fruit at reasonable prices.

Place all the ingredients in the blender and pulse until it turns slushie. You may want to mix a few times with a large spoon or spatula then pulse again a few times to make sure there are no large chunks of fruit in your homemade slushie.

If your slushie is too stiff add a little more liquid. Likewise, if your slushie is too thin and liquidy, add more frozen fruit.

It makes a great Prosecco holiday co*cktail or fun summer co*cktail on hot days. Really, who are we kidding, it’s really great any time of the year.

Mocktail Version

For an easy nonalcoholic strawberry slushie, substitute lemon-lime or ginger ale soda for the Prosecco.

The recipe makes just one drink but you can easily multiply the ingredients to make more than one at a time. So get out your blender and let’s get started!
